Don't ask the ignoramus is
a self-portrait and at the same time a post-post-romantic view of the
artist, that is, a caricature that is nice but not heroic: a mannequin
that if it wasn't for its dimensions (the same as those of the artist),
could be placed on top of a PC monitor together with a Homer Simpson
doll. But mostly because of its size we can take a photo of ourselves
next to it, as if it was a Mickey or a Donald in a thematic park, or
the most eccentric of the living statues in a city where you don't live. In the framework of contemporary art and its socio-political connotations, we cannot deny that institutions have the ability to neutralize criticism and therefore generate scepticism. The ignoramus, however, advocates activism from inside the system, in line with a foucaultian resistance, and reviving the figure of the buffoon. |
