Un inglés, un francés y un espanyol (An Englishman, a Frenchman and a Spaniard) is the visual representation of a conflict. The main structure is formed by three swings which allow for its shared use, only after the three participants have reached a prior agreement(1). The title makes a reference to the first line in classic jokes where three people of diferent nationalities participate in the same action but with different outcomes. Un inglés, un francés y un español is the spatial representation of a game where the viewer is encouraged to become a player. the visual mind games which inform much of G. Bianchi's practice are manifested here in the structure, which is confusing and surprising because of the familiarity of the swings and the contradiction inherent in its design. The viewer overcomes this initial feeling by rationalizing the problem with the others players. Once the risk is eliminated, the conflict disappears. The project is completed by the graphic depiction of a joke. A comic strip formed by three vignettes shows a clownish character (a caicature of the artist) acting out an emotional journey -from incomprehension to indignation to acceptance- which runs parallel to his passivity as spectator(2).
